Vinayagar Chaturthi: Plastic and thermocol not allowed for idol immersion in Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board on Friday issued guidelines for the immersion of idols to be held as part of Monday’s Vinayagar Chaturthi festival, urging the public to use only the notified places in each district for the purpose and also to follow the central guidelines.

The board guidelines stipulate that only idols made of natural, biodegradable, and eco-friendly raw materials, such as traditional clay and mud, are permitted for immersion in waterbodies. The use of plaster of Paris, plastic, thermocol, single-use plastic, and toxic and non-biodegradable chemical dyes or oil paints is strictly prohibited.
