rejected Tamil Nadu tableau displayed in Chennai Republic Day parade

The Tamil Nadu tableau, which will not be featured in Delhi’s Republic Day parade, will be displayed in the Chennai Republic Day parade.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin assured citizens that the tableau would be displayed in all major cities in TN for public viewing.

CM MK Stalin said that the state had made all the three corrections that were suggested to it by the selection committee but was not invited to the fourth round of meetings or given a clarification on the rejection.

CM MK Stalin stated that the rich Tamil heritage in the freedom struggle was the theme of this year’s tableau, and its rejection caused disappointment.

The tableaus were a repercussion to the Centre’s committee which rejected the proposal by the Tamilnadu Government.

They carried portrayals of Queen Velu Nachiyar, her soldier and the first documented suicide bomber, Kuyili, Marudhu Pandiyar, Veerapandiya Kattanomman, Subramania Bharathi, VO Chidambar, Periyar, Kamarajar, Pasumpon Muthuramalingam, Rettai Malai Srinivasan, and several prominent freedom fighters from Tamilnadu.

CM Stalin, while speaking at an event on Mozhipor (Language War) martyrs, alleged that the tableau proposal was deliberately rejected and was upset to find out one member of the expert committee confused Queen Velu Nachiyar with Queen of Jhansi.

Speaking on the controversy, DMK MP Kanimozhi stated that it was not acceptable that the committee members couldn’t recognise the freedom fighters.

“The committee had issues with who these leaders were. That is not acceptable. If you do not know who these freedom fighters are, there is a problem with the committee. So we are trying to educate people who do not them. One of the reasons given was that they couldn’t recognise these leaders. That is the issue. It doesn’t matter how many times are tableau was permitted,” stated Kanimozhi.
