Our Parliament Will Be Torch Bearer Of World In Achieving SDGs: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, addressed the Rajya Sabha on the first day of Winter session of the Parliament. Speaking in the Upper House of the Parliament, PM Modi said that our Parliament will lead in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. “Our Parliament will be the torch bearer of the world in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with ease and responsibility,” he said. 

“Rajya Sabha is the biggest strength of the country. Many of our Prime Ministers have worked as members of Rajya Sabha,” the Prime Minister added.

He also said “we are witnessing session at an important time when India has assumed the G20 presidency and also in the ‘amrit kaal’.” “India will be playing an important role in deciding future of the world. Our democracy, parliament, and parliamentary system will also play an important role,” he said. 

Addressing President Droupadi Murmu, PM Modi said, ” Tribal heritage is guiding us today in the form of Droupadi Murmu as President of the country.” 

Earlier in the day before the commencement of the session, PM interacted with the media and hailed the opportunity provided to India to preside over the G20 summit.

“This G20 Summit isn’t just a diplomatic event, it’s an opportunity to display India’s capability before the world. Such a large country, mother of democracy, such diversity, such capability-it’s an opportunity for world to know India and for India to show its capability to world, said the Prime Minister in his interaction with the press.

The Prime Minister also laid emphasis on taking up important discussions in the Parliament for the development of the country and urged opposition parties to “add value to discussions.”

“In this session, efforts will be made to take important decisions while keeping in mind taking the country to new heights of development & new opportunities to take the country forward amid current global situation. I’m confident that all parties will add value to discussions,” said the PM during his interaction.
