Former India all-rounder Suresh Raina’s father, Trilokchand Raina, died of cancer on Sunday, February 6. Trilokchand, who was a military officer and had mastery of making bombs in an ordnance factory, passed away at his Ghaziabad residence.
Raina, 35, played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20s for India. Raina’s father’s ancestral village is ‘Rainawari’ in the Jammu and Kashmir union territory of India. Suresh Raina’s ancestors are from Kashmir but the cricketer took to the sport when he grew up in Uttar Pradesh.
Raina was admitted to the Guru Gobind Singh sports college, Lucknow, in 1998. Raina has been visiting Kashmir to reconnect with his ancestral place and open a cricket academy in the Valley.
