The Greater Chennai Police (GCP) have come up with a set of rules and regulations regarding the installation and worship of Ganesh idols in the city in the wake of the Vinayaka Chaturthi festival next week.
They have banned bursting of firecrackers in places where the idols are installed, procession routes and immersion points, officials said.
Senior police officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police Prem Anand Sinha (South), and joint commissioners R Sibi Chakravarthi, (South Zone), and B Shamoondeshwari (North Zone), Tuesday held a meeting with around 200 representatives from 29 outfits that will be organising the festival.
