Reacting to the POCSO case against him, the BJP stalwart claimed that a woman had come to him with some problem and he requested the police commissioner to help her. “Later, the woman started talking against me,” said the 81-year-old former chief minister of Karnataka.
“A few days ago a woman came to my house. She was crying saying that there was some problem. I asked her what was the matter and I personally called the police commissioner about the matter and told him to help her. Later, the woman started talking against me. I have brought this matter to the attention of the police commissioner. Yesterday police filed a complaint against me. Let’s see what happens next, I can’t say that there is a political motive behind this,” he claimed.
The Bengaluru police have filed a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO), against former Karnataka chief minister and BJP stalwart BS Yediyurappa on Friday morning. The mother of a 17-year-old girl has lodged a complaint against the BJP leader of sexual assault during a meeting last month.
Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara has confirmed that a complaint has been filed. He, however, refused to divulge more details due to the sensitivity of the case.
in the early hours of Friday. The case was registered after the mother of a 17-year-old girl lodged a complaint alleging sexual assault by the senior leader during a meeting regarding official matters on February 2.
G Parameshwara said the woman typed the complaint and gave it to the police.
“Last night, a woman lodged a complaint against BS Yeddiyurappa. After examining the details, police have registered a complaint. Until the investigation is done I can’t comment on the details,” he said.
According to the woman’s mother, the 81-year-old BJP leader sexually assaulted her daughter on February 2.
The police have booked BS Yediyurappa under section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act and Section 354 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Yediyurappa is the most towering BJP leader in Karnataka. He is the only person to have served four times as the chief minister of the state and three times as the Leader of the Opposition.
He is currently grappling with resentments in BJP’s Karnataka units.
Former deputy chief minister KS Eshwarappa, who was seeking a ticket for his son KE Kantesh said, claimed his supporters want him to contest as an independent.
Eshwarappa said on Thursday that BS Yediyurappa had shown great concern for Shobha Kharandjale, even having the capacity to change her constituency from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru to Bengaluru North. However, he did not exhibit the same interest in ensuring that Kantesh received a ticket to contest from Haveri-Gadag.
