Apple could be working on fitness-focused AirTag-like tracker for health tracking.

AirTags have been a highly popular accessory among iPhone users, and Apple seems to be considering getting a bit more out of this form factor. According to a patent filed by the company, it is working on an AirTag-like device that can attach to the user’s clothes or body to deliver fitness and health-centric tracking.

Unlike AirTags, which are primarily used to track luggage and even pets in some cases, the new AirTag-like tracker is currently under development with an emphasis on activity and health monitoring. As spotted by Patentlyapple, the company originally filed this patent back in 2020 in the name of an employer and is now listed as an Apple patent application.

According to the patent document, the user will be able to place this tracker on various parts of the body, such as the leg, hand, and even the chest. When placed on the body, it will start gathering data from the sensors and the same is transmitted to an iPhone or Watch.

It is said that these trackers will be capable of monitoring physical therapy, running, motion, and personal training. They are even said to be capable of fall detection, just like the newer Apple Watches.

Apple files many patents every year, and only a few of them end up becoming actual products that users can buy. As of now, it is unclear when this health tracker will end up on Apple Store shelves.
